After we had been to the food and drink fair at Hardwick we decided we should go back and have a look at this magnificent house again.
We turned up late on a Sunday afternoon when the weather was fairly dull and were too late to go inside so we took some photos of the exterior and the gardens.
The one thing that is so strikingly obvious from many of the pictures is that the building seems to be more glass than wall.
It is truly magnificent. Not as opulent as Chatsworth but very grand for the age when it was built.
It’s nice to be a tourist on my own home patch every so often.
More to follow: the gardens and the interior.
